Lynette Smith’s Award-Winning Work at Professional Photographers of Washington Event

Local Photographer’s Work Wins Honors at State Competition

Lynette Smith, of Lynette Smith Photography in Wenatchee, Washington was awarded several awards at the Professional Photographers of Washington’s (PPW) 71st Annual Educational Conference and Print Competition held March 23rd thru 27th, 2018 in Lynnwood, Washington.

A case comprised of four images was submitted for judging.  All four of Smith’s prints earned a PPW merit, and three images also earned a PPA merit.  Merited images have been judged according to 12 elements that are the “gold standard” of photography. 

            The image, “Wrangler in the Dusty Morning Light”, and “Dusty Rays of Heaven”, were on display at the PPW Print Competition and Educational Conference.

“Dusty Rays of Heaven” earned a Judges Choice Award, and “Wrangler in the Dusty Morning Light”, earned an Honor Court award (reserved for a handful of photographers with the highest scoring entries), and a Judges Choice award.    

Smith also won the Best of Show trophy for the best single entry from all divisions as determined by the jurors, the Roger Dudley Trophy (for best single entry from the commercial division), and the Commercial Division Best Unclassified Portrait award for her “Dusty Rays of Heaven” print.  She also won the Portrait Division Best Unclassified Portrait, for “Wrangler in the Dusty Morning Light” and the Russ Clift Trophy (best mixed case, split entry aggregate score).  Award Winning Images were selected from entries submitted by Professional Photographers throughout the Western United States.

            In recognition of the achievement, the Professional Photographers of Washington Inc., awards merit certificates that are applied toward professional degrees granted by the association.  Smith is currently working on her Masters in Photography.

The Professional Photographers of Washington, Inc., (PPW) is a professional trade association, formed in 1952, to foster and encourage the free exchange of creative concepts, and imaging technology, among its members; and to advance the art and science of photographic imaging, as-well-as promote a public awareness of the value of professional photography.  All images are viewable on the Professional Photographers of Washington website at (www.ppw.org).

  1. Do you have to be riding a horse with your camera in hand to get these images. They are astounding. Great work.

      Thank you so much 🙂 I love photographing horses, and horses & cowboys! I was not riding when photographing these moments. I was up on some rock cliffs above. Sometimes, there is a need to be out on horseback during these sessions, and others we’re on foot. So glad you love the work. I will be listing some portraits from this adventure on my Facebook page over the next few weeks.
